By default the GrapesJS Asset Manager embeds uploaded images as base64, which inflates every saved project and makes stored pages enormous. This plugin routes uploads into a Firebase Storage bucket instead, so the canvas holds URLs rather than encoded image data.

Required setup

Two things must be configured. Pass your Firebase app credentials through firebaseConfig, and set assetManager: { embedAsBase64: 0 } in your editor config — without that second line GrapesJS keeps embedding files and the plugin never sees them.

What it adds

A get-firebase-assets command that loads the bucket's existing contents into the Asset Manager, so previously uploaded images are available in new sessions rather than only in the one that uploaded them.

Options

  • firebaseConfig — your Firebase app credentials.
  • fileName — the storage folder uploads land in, defaulting to assets.

Version constraint

The plugin is tested on Firebase v8 and above, and v9 is not yet supported. Firebase v9 introduced a modular SDK with a different import shape, so pin the compat version or the plugin will not initialise.

Good to know

Install as grapesjs-firebase-storage.
