Backgrounds are where the default style manager is weakest: colour, image, size, position and repeat are separate text inputs, and gradients have to be typed as raw CSS. The background plugin groups them into one editor with layer support, and Gpickr adds a visual gradient picker with stops that can be dragged. Both register as style-manager sectors, so they slot into the existing panel rather than replacing it, and the CSS they produce is ordinary and exports cleanly.
